Speeding westbound Metra commuter train passing underneath the Belt Railway of Chicago. Chicago Illinois USA. November 2006.
I took this photo around sunset one evening in November of 2006. It is the evening rush hour commuting period in the city of Chicago Illinois, as a speeding westbound Metra / Union Pacific west line train enroute to Elburn Illinois, passes underneath the Belt Railway of Chicago flyover junction at West Kinzie Street and North Kenton Avenue on Chicago's westside.
Northbound Union Pacific transfer train waiting on a hold order. Bridgeview Illinois USA. Febuary 2007.
In bitterly cold 6 degrees above zero Farenheight conditions with a cold wind blowing out of the west, is what I braved to capture this bright and sunny winter railroad photograph. Chicago was in the middle of a severe deep freeze condition back in Febuary of 2007. The crew of this Union Pacific freight train waits on a hold order on the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad tracks just south of West 87th Street.

Silent Digital Video: Westbound Metra commuter train passing the Western Avenue station during a morning snowstorm. Chicago Illinois USA. Dec 2007.
I photographed this unique silent digital video during a moning snowstorm back in December of 2007. Seen here on the adjacent Union Pacific ex Chicago & Northwestern Railroad line, a westbound Metra commuter train slowly passes by the western Avenue station. This train appears to be headed to the California Avenue coach yard.
I took this photo on a bitterly cold, windy and overcast winter morning in January of 2007. In a scene of typical Chicago area winter railroading, an eastbound Canadian Pacific freight train departs from the nearby Bensenville Yard with a light covering of snow on the ground. My face was begining to sting from the wind blowing out of the west. Windchill factors and all, this photo was definately worth the discomfort.
I took this photo one sunny December morning back in 2006. With outside temperatures in the pleasant low 50's range this late in the year, a westbound BNSF Railway empty unit coal train passed through west suburban Brookfield Illinois.

The outside temperature was eight degrees above zero and falling as the sun was setting.
A former GTW EMD locomotive acquired through merger by the Canadian National Railroad, is viewed spotting covered hopper cars on the factory sidings just south of the old yard. There was a sharp and bitterly cold win blowing in from the west as night time was approaching.
I took this photo toward the end of the day on a May 1990 fantrip charter over the former Illinois Bentral electrified commuter rail lines out of Chicago Illinois.
I don't recall what commuter station location this was, but We had several photo opportunities this day.
I took this photo one sunny Autum morning back in October of 2006.

Southwest Airlines jet plane approaching Chicago's Midway Airport. Chicago Illinois USA. September 1987.
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.
I grew up o the southwest side of Chicago Myself, and took this photo at a location that has always been very special to Me. Looking southeast from the northeast corner of West 63rd Street and South Cicero Avenue, We spot an arriving Southwest Airlines jet coming in for a landing at Chicago's Midway Airport just across the street from Me to the west.
I took this photo on a mild December morning in 2006.

Digital Live Sound Video: Westbound CTA Skokie Swift train. Skokie Illinois USA. Friday, January 30th 2009.
I photographed this digital live sound video on location at the Kostner Avenue Chicago Transit Authority railroad crossing, in north suburban Skokie Illinois.
I stood outside waiting on this bright and sunny afternoon, in bone chilling thirteen degrees above zero Farenheight outside temperature conditions. Looking east from the Kostner Avenue railroad crossing, a Chicago Transit Authority yellow line train, passes through Christmas card like scenery.
I took this photo one summer night, in June of 2009.
A favorite eating place I frequently enjoyed visiting, was the very retro Frosted Mug. The Frosted Mug drive in restaurant was located at South Pulaski Road and West 116th Street in south suburban Alsip Illinois. From 1985 until the place eventually closed in 2007, I would enjoy a Tuesday or Saturday evening session when they used to have their "Car Shows" on the property.
When I took this photo, It was quiete clear that some remodeling work had taken place on the interior. The drive inrestaurant itself however, was in a state of dormant abandonement facing an uncertain future.
The Frosted Mug was one of the last roadside drive in restaurants in the Chicago area that still had year round car hop service. A throw back to the 1950's and 60's Baby boomer era.
I took this photo on a sunny and somewhat mild winter morning, in early January of 2008. With cold temperatures and heavy lake effect snows a week or two ahead, it was a nice morning to be on location with a camera in hand.
This is the tiny little flagstop depot used by Metra Heritage Corridor trains enroute to Joliet Illinois, as well as Chicago to St. Louis Missouri regional Amtrak trains. This is located west of the Chicago city limits, in southwest suburban Summit Illinois. A Canadian National freight train was waiting on a hold order at the time of My visit.

The Talman Home Bank at West 55th Street and South Kedzie Avenue. Chicago Illinois USA. December 1986.
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.
I took this photo on a bitterly cold December night way back in 1986. I was experimenting with taking night time time exposures with My 35 MM camera with a buddy of mine. With outside temperatures in the single digits, it was not a very pleasant experience. But the pictures We took turned out great that night.
We are looking north from West 55th Place and South Kedzie Avenue, in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. A Chicago Police Department patrol car arrived on the scene to answer a malfunctioning alarm call. Once the bank security guard explained to the Chicago Police Officer that everything was actually alright, He quietly left the south parking lot.
An older neighborhood gentlemen walked by our tripods, and asked us
"Did You get a photo of that cop robbing the bank?" Ha ha ha!
A god photo, a good laugh, and a happy memory from the southwest side of Chicago for Me that night.

The Jakter Hotel on the southeast corner of West 47th Street and South Kedzie Avenue. (Gone) New Years Day 1983 shortly before the demolition.
One of the more obscure local Chicago neighborhood subjects that I had photographed during the early 1980's, was the Jakter Hotel at the intersection of West 47th Street and South Kedzie Avenue in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood.
This was one of the last southside Chicago transient skid row type of hotels in existance. The upcoming demolition was announced in the local Chicago newspapers shortly before I snapped this photo. Here is the Jakter Hotle looking north on South Kedzie Avenue on a quiet and sunny New Years Day in January of 1983.

Westbound Burlington Northern / early Metra local commuter train arriving at the La Grange Road station. La Grange Illinois USA. Febuary 1985.
When I occasionally look back at the decade of the 1980's, many happy memorys of afternoons in downtown west suburban La Grange come to mind. I had spent much time here on again / off again railfaning the Burlington Northern mainline with My 35mm Pentex ME Super in hand back then.

A westbound Burlington Northern commuter train enroute to Aurora Illinois, is viewed arriving at the La Grange Road Amtrak / Metra commuter rail station in downtown west suburban La Grange Illinois. The train is being headed up by the then standard 1953 vintage Burlington Northern EMD model E-9 passenger locomotive.
The 1980's were a great time to go lineside railfanning in La Grange Ilinois.

Preserved 1980 era GMC RTS model transit bus from Janesville Wisconsin. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. July 2009.
Welcome aboard the " Bus Day" edition of Eddie's Railfan Page.
I took this photo inside the bus barn at the Illinois Railway Museum.
General Motors Corporation had introduced the stylish and quiete spartan RTS model transit bus during the late 1970's. This model of transit bus had replaced the old fishbowl windshield TDH series transit buses that were introduced in 1959. The GMC fishbowl windshield buses, worked on may different transit companys in the United States and Canada for many years, until retirements started taking place during the 1990's.
The operator's cab of First Transit 2008 Ford paratransit bus # 5157. Glenview Illinois USA. November 2009.
I took this photo at work one morning recently, in November of 2009. This is the driver's compartment or "Cab" on First Transit 2008 Ford paratransit bus # 5157. If it looks a little low, believe Me it actually is. The driver's compartment is actually recessed approximately six inches below the main floor of the bus.
I took this photo one lovely Springtime morning, back in May of 2009. Seen her in the parking lot of a large local strip mall at Arlington Heights and Biesterfield Roads in suburban Elk Grove Village Illinois, is a Thomas school bus from the local carrier Jones Bus Company.
Thomas wasn't always a company that manufactured school bus bodies, their roots go back to at least the early 1900's. The original name of the company, was the Pearly A. Thomas Car Company. This company manufactured standard electric city streetcars or "Trolleys" as some people called them. Many original 1920's era Pearly A. Thomas electric streetcars, are still in service today in the city of New Orleans Louisianna.
I photographed this silent digital video after work one day with My old digital camera, back in April of 2007. An eastbound Pace 2002 Orion low floor transit bus, passes by on Cermak Road in west suburban Berwyn Illinois.

I took this photo one lovely Autum morning, back in October of 2007.
With colorful leaves on the village streets, west suburban Riverside Illinois is a showcase of seasonal Autum beauty.
I took this photo last week one morning.
With most if not all of the Autum leaves having fallen from the trees, the landscape in the greater Chicagoland area is now reverting to it's barren and straw brown winter image. The prairie grasses in this field just east of Lehigh Avenue in north suburban Morton Grove Illinois, are now ready for the soon to arrive snows of the upcoming winter season. It's that time of the year again in Chicago.

Railroads operate 24 hours a day and seven days a week in all kinds of weather. I took this photo looking south toward the Prairie Avenue railroad crossing in west suburban Brookfield Illinois. In this view of trains in the rain, this eastbound BNSF Railway freight train, passes through Brookfield Illinois during a very cold and rainy November morning in 2007. The normally dirty and oxidized train cars, are glistening in a shiny coat of rain water.

On Saturday, June 17th 2000, the city of Kenosha Wisconsin opened their "New" elctric streetcar line wich operates from the Metra commuter rail station to Harbor Park and return. I took this photo after the official ribbon cutting ceremony.
Kenosha discontinued electric streetcar operations originally in 1932.
The old system operated with single and double truck Birney safety streetcars.
The new line operated with five 1951 streamlined PCC cars from Canada's own
Toronto Transit Commision.
I took this photo after work one evening around sunset, in September of 2006.

The Canadian Pacific ex Milwaukee Road line, and the Union Pacific Railroad's former Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad line pass through here side by side. There are also two adjacent commuter coach yard maintenance facilities once owned by the two former railroads, and now operated by todays Metra commuter rail agency.

Preserved Chicago Transit Authority 1920's era 4000 series rapid transit car. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. June 1993.
I took this 35mm black and white photo on a June 1993 visit to the Illinois Railway Museum. Looking like a scene out of Chicago area transit history past, this 1920's era car is viewed on display by the museum's preserved CTA rapid transit station from 50th Avenue in west suburban Cicero Illinois. Yjis almost looks like a scene out of the 1950's.
I took this photo looking northwest from the diagonal railroad crossing at Grand Avenue in near northwest suburban Elmwood Park Illinois. A westbound evening rush hour local, continues it's journey to Elgin Illinois.

Digital Live Sound Video: The Kiddieland Limited steam train chuffs off in to history. Kiddieland Amusement Park. Sunday, September 27th 2009.
I photographed this digital live sound video on the afternoon of Sunday, September 27th 2009. We are looking through and over the chain link fence, along the southwest curve of the Kiddieland Amusement Park's Miniature Railroad ride.
Sunday, September 27th 2009 was the last day of operation at Chicago's Kiddieland Amusement Park in near northwest suburban Melrose Park Illinois. After 81 years in operation, the park was officially closing for good. The sad day was appropriately overcast and rainy.
The Kiddieland limited steam train, was making one of several last runs on this day.
I tried to get the locomotive operators attention to blow the whistle, but unfortunately He ignored Me. I can't blame Him either. His mind was definately somewhere elese. This video is a scene of an era coming to an end in the greater Chicagoland area. Kiddieland will be missed by many. R.I.P 1928 -2009.
This old photograph was taken By My Cousin Allen, back in April of 1976.
This is a view of the aftermath of a freight train derailment at speed on the Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad.
A trio of trolley freight motors at work switching museum rolling stock. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. November 1976.
I was only 14 years old and using My parent's Kodak 110 Pocket camera when I took this photo back in early November of 1976. I would not own My first 35mm camera until almost 7 years later from the time of this photo.
My Family and I, visited the Illinois Railway Museum on a sunny but chilly day in early November of 1976. The regular museum operating season was practically over, but they were operating a former Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad city streetcar that operated originally in Waukeegan Illinois on this day.
This is a behind the scenes image of museum support operations at work. This trio of electric interurban trolley freight motors, are viewed switching museum rolling stock in the yard sidings.
This was how the Illinois Railway Museum looked like back in much simpler earlier times. They only had a little over a mile of mainline demonstration track, and the trolley loop didn't exist yet.
I took this photo during My lunchbreak one morning, in early November of 2009.
Basking in the sunshine on a siding just east of adjacent Lehigh Avenue, We spot a Metra maintenance of way department Burro crane and boom tender car laying over with the cranes diesel engine idling.
