Soon I will be roller blading here once again!

Prior to the 1880's, many American railroad steam locomotives, wore elaborate , colorful paint schemes with ornate brass trim.

This had vanished largely by the 1880's, as most railroads
had gotten away from individual locomotive engineers that
were assigned to their own and often customized engines.

Larger locomotives and cost effective basic black color
schemes had taken over before the 1800's were over.

In loving memory of Jimmy Greenspoon. 1948 -2015. The keyboardist for the 1970's top 40 / rock and roll music group Three Dog Night.

Hi everyone, this is Eddie K, your host and photographer
here at Eddie's Railfan Page.

Although transportation subjects are a large passion of mine, I
also enjoy looking back at some of the things I had grown up
with  during the 1960's and 70's.

One of my all time favorite music groups back in those
days, was a rock and roll hit factory band from the city
of Los Angeles California, known as "Three Dog Night."

I have been a life long fan of Three Dog Night, and I always
appreciated the superb keyboard skills of Jimmy Greenspoon.
Jimmy Greenspoon passed away this week, after a battle
with cancer. Although his keyboard is now silenced, his music
will play on in my CD collection anytime I am in the mood.

Thank you for those great keyboard riffs and arrangements
Jimmy. You and the other guys in Three Dog Night, will
always be an inspiration to me.

Rest in peace.
Eddie K.

I took this photograph at work recently, from the front windshield
of my 2012 Gillig 35 foot transit / shuttle bus I drive, at Chicago's
Midway International Airport.

I am employed, as a rental car shuttle bus driver, and the many
transfer trains that travel over the Belt Railway of Chicago, are
an everyday sight that this local Chicago railfan enjoys.

We are on the private road heading westbound toward the
Midway Rental Car Center, as a transfer train of then
unknown railroad origin, was passing by the Midway
Airport property, enroute to Clearing yard in Bedford

A typical American steam locomotive from the mid 1800's era.

Locomotives built in America prior to 1900, have always held
a certain leval of fascination for me.  Engines built prior to the
1880's, were often painted in bright and elaborate color schemes.

Many of the early steam locomotives, burned wood for fuel. The
locomotive headlights burned oil or kerosene, boiler jackets were
polished and often featured a blue or green metallic finish, cabs
were made of wood, and an average engine weight of the time, was
a light 44 Tons. Locomotive and tender wheels, were often painted
in bright shades of red or sometimes maroon depending on the -
railroad. Some had black driving wheels early on.

The 1880's would find the railroads getting away from the elaborate
and costly to maintain fancy color schemes and ornamentation on
the steam locomotives. Basic black was more cost effective as well.

It was a colorful era indeed back then.

Thanks.

BTO_ Bachman Turner Overdrive - Roll on down the highway ( Full Original...

Hi everyone!
This is Eddie K, your host and photographer here at Eddie's Railfan Page.

I was born in Chicago during 1962, and I grew up listening to many really
cool rock and roll music acts during the classic rock era.

One of my all time 1970's era classic rock groups, was a rock and roll band
from Canada known as Bachman Turner Overdrive. Here is their big hit song
"Roll On Down The Highway", which is still one of my favorites today.
