grew up seeing on the southside of Chicago, during the
1970's and early 1980's.

A late 1970's / early 1980's era Illinois Central Gulf Railroad freight train.

I took this photograph last night, at the Oak Park Society Of
Model Engineers,H.O Scale Model Railroad Club in
Oak Park Illinois.

I lived approximately one mile north of the former Illinois Central
Gulf Railroad's Iowa Division Mainline, and the former Gulf,
Mobile & Ohio line just south of it, across the Chicago, Sanitary
and Ship Canal, when I was growing up on the near southwest
side of Chicago Illinois, during the 1970's.

My ICG train shown here, brought back some happy memories.

Northern Pacific Railroad EMD SW 1200 yard switcher # 130 during the 1960's.

Before there was today's BNSF Railway, there was the
Burlington Northern Railroad, which was made up
of four railroads that merged together on March 2nd 1970.

The four railroads that made up the Burlington Northern Railroad
were...The Great Northern Railway, The Northern Pacific, The
Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, and the Spokane, Portland
& Seatle Railroad. In 1980, the Saint Louis & San Francisco
Railroad Aka "Frisco", was also acquired by the BN and
would soon merge in to this big mega railroad.

This photograph shows how it was like, before these railroads
had formed a big mega merger, when times were much
simpler back in 1967.

Me and my brand new Walther's Mainline Series, H.O Scale "Chessie System" EMD SW 1 diesel switcher.

Hi Everyone! This is Eddie K, Your host and photographer
here at Eddie's Railfan Page.

I grew up on the near southwest side of Chicago during the
1970's, and have many fond memories of some of the now
fallen flag railroads of the past, I witnessed first hand back
in those days.

I fondly remember seeing these old Chessie System EMD SW 1
switchers at work, on the southside of Chicago during the 1970's
and perhaps early 1980's. They did everything from switch the
yards, pull local switching freight assignments, and even pull
transfer trains and locals through Brighton Junction.

My Athearn Chessie System northeastern style cupola caboose
that I bought a year ago, now finally has a fitting matching
locomotive to pull it, when I run 1970's era freight trains
at the model railroad club.

Thanks.
Eddie K.

Believe me...it was a freezing bitter cold day that day.
