Brittish telephone booth. Glenview Illinois. November 2010.

I photographed this classic red Brittish telephone booth not in London England U.K...but rather in north suburban Glenview Illinois USA just outside of Chicago.

This very regal red Brittish telephone booth, is located along the west side of Harlem Avenue, just south of the intersection at Glenview Road.

Who knows? Maybe this is the famous "Tardis" used on the Brittish science fiction television series "Doctor Who". Hmm. Interesting.

Welcome aboard the "Bus Day" edition of Eddie's Railfan Page!

One of My happy memories growing up in the city of Chicago Illinois during the 1960's and early 1970's, was seeing and riding the Chicago Transit Authority's electric trolleybuses during their final years of operation in Chicago.

I spotted this photo at an internet website known as Tom's Trolleybus Pictures
www.trolleybuses.net

This Chicago Transit Authority Route # 53 Pulaski Road trolleybus, was photographed on September 7th, 1969 near the intersection of Grand Avenue. This particulr model of electric trolleybus, was manufactured by the Marmon Herrington Corporation in 1951. This bus was ordered by the CTA in 1951, as part of an order for 300 electric trolleybuses from the Marmon Herrington Corporation. This would also be the CTA's "Last" order for new electric trolleybuses.

The CTA began to gradually phase out some electric trolleybus routes during the mid to late 1950's, begining with the CTA Route # 76 Diversey Avenue line in June of 1955. The 1960's decade began to find more and more routes being phased out and converted to diesel and propane bus operation on a case by case basis.

The last three CTA electric trolleybus routes, were last operated on Sunday, March 25th, 1973. Route # 53 Pulaski Road was one of the lines on this date.

Luckilly, the last two 1951 CTA Marmon Herrington electric trolleybuses that operated in Chicago, are preserved and occasionally operated today at The Illinois Railway Museum, located in the town of Union Illinois. www.irm.org

The CTA bus terminal loop at west 111th Street near South Springfield Avenue. Chicago Illinois. November 1989.

I took this unique 35 MM black and white photo way back in November of 1989, in Chicago's Mount Greenwood neighborhood on the far southside of town.

Seen here on a very overcast November Saturday afternoon, are two now long gone transit bus types once used by the Chicago Transit Authority.

The lead bus, is a rehabbed 1970's era GMC TDH Series Fishbowl Windshield transit bus. This bis is wearing the "New" 1989 CTA colors, and is operating in it's last years of service.

The 2nd bus, is a very square and boxy looking 1985 M.A.N transit bus. These buses were manufactured in the European Nation formerly known as West Germany. Because of there shape, many local Chicago bus fans nicknamed the 1985 M.A.N bus "Bricks".

This phot was taken at the CTA bus terminal at Wesyt 111th Street and South Springfield Avenue, in Chicago's Mount Greenwood neighborhood.

Eastbound CTA wrecker truck.Chicago Illinois. October 2006

This photo was taken By Me, back in October of 2006.

This big red Chicago Transit Authority wrecker truck, is viewed heading eastbound on West Chicago Avenue, east of the border at west suburban Oak Park Illinois.

This wrecker truck, is possibly heading back to the CTA garage facility on West Chicago Avenue near North Pulaski Road just a few miles east of here.

Northbound CTA Route # 11 Lincoln Avenue bus. Chicago Illinois. December 2005.

I took this photo back in December of 2005.

Seen here is a northbound Chicago Transit Authority RTS model transit bus working on the Route # 11 Lincoln Avenue line. With the old buildings on North Lincoln Avenue casting a large shadow on North Lincoln Avenue, this bus is now slowing down for the bus stop at West Berteau Avenue.

Southbound Pace bus on Taft Avenue. Berkeley Illinois. December 2007.

There is nothing like a beautiful and warm sunny day late in the year when it is normally cold outside.I took this photo on what was actually a sunny and rather mild day back in early December of 2007. Jackets were almost optional.

Seen here is a suburban Pace bus heading southbound on Taft Avenue, in west suburban Berkeley Illinois.

Heavy fog at the sightseeing boat landings. Lake Geneva Wisconsin. October 1986.

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

I took this rather erie looking photograph, during an October 1986 visit to Lake Geneva Wisconsin. It is now late in the boating season.
With a very thick and heavy "Pea Soup Fog" on Lake Geneva, there will be no sightseeing cruises today aboard the Lady of the lake moored at the docks.

New Link page added to Eddie's Railfan Page. Chicago's Baci Pizzeria at3225 North Harlem Avenue in Chicago Illinois.

Sometimes in the course of running Your own blogsite such as this one, You can meet very many nice people along the way.

Just recently, I met Pat the owner of this Baci Pizzeria at 3225 North Harlem Avenue in Chicago's Mont Clare neighborhood.

Earlier this year, I did a posting here at Eddie's Railfan Page about this Baci Pizzeria location when they had just opened this Spring. Pat wrote Me a comment at Eddie's Railfan Page correcting Me on the spelling, but also thanking Me for the nice P.R on My behalf.

Everytime I go to this Baci Pizzeria to purchase something for lunch or dinner occasionaly, Pat always gives Me a big warm welcome and treats Me like family.

Pat? Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page as one of My official links page listings.

Thanks.

I took this photo on a lovely Saturday Springtime afternoon, back in April of 1988.

A westbound Burlington Northern Railroad / early Metra local commuter train enroute to Aurora Illinois, is viewed making the station stop at Harlem Avenue in west suburban Berwyn Illinois.

Raspberries - Go All The Way

I grew up in the city of Chicago Illinois during the 1960's and 70's era.

One group that I really enjoyed listening to, and somehow couldn't get enough of, was a rock and roll band from Cleveland Ohio that had made it big known as "The Raspberries". With lead vocalist Eric Carmen fronting a very talented group of rocking musicians...I felt that these guys were sensational!

I was only 10 years old when their smash hit "Go all the way" hit the charts in 1972.
Still, this song became a life long favorite for Me.

Thanks.

I took this photo inside the "New" 2002 carbarn at The Hesston Steam Museum during My recent September 2010 visit.

Sometimes taking the time to photograph the up close details of a locomotive or piece of equipment can be fun as well. Seen here are the wheels, piston rods and running gear of a 1940 built meter guage 0-4-0T side tank steam locomotive from Czechloslovakia.

Former Illinois Central locomotive. CN transfer train. La Grange Park Illinois. November 2007.

I took this photo facing west on 31st Street one cold and rainy November morning back in 2007.

Digital Live Sound Video: Westbound Metra express commuter train passing through Park Ridge Illinois. Late February 2010.

I photographed this night time digital live sound video back in late February of 2010.

It was bitterly cold outside that night in northwest suburban Park Ridge Illinois. Facing north on Prospect Avenue, We see a quick moving Metra express commuter train enroute to Harvard Illinois over the former Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad line.

Today, this route is owned by the Union Pacific Railroad, as is refered to as the Metra / Union Pacific Northwest Line.

I took this photograph on a cold and rainy late Winter morning, back in early March of 1985.

I spotted this Belt Railway of Chicago 1950's era EMD SW series yard switcher locomotive # 521, at work spotting freight cars on an industrial branchline near West 73rd Street, in southwest suburban Bedford Park Illinois.

Mexican food. Lalo's Mexican Restaurant. Roselle Illinois. Saturday, October 9th, 2010.

There is nothing like a plate of savory Mexican food to spice up Eddie's Railfan Page right about now. Right? You bet!

I took this photo recently at La Lo's Mexican Restaurant in northwest suburban Roselle Illinois. My lovely wife Cheryl, had ordered this particular entree. It looked and smelled so good, that I jusyt couldn't resist taking a photo of it.

The food is excelent here.

Westbound BNSF Railway unit coal train. Riverside Illinois. October2006.

I phototographed this empty westbound BNSF Railway unit coal train passing through west suburban Riverside Illinois, one lovely autum morning back in October of 2006.

We are on location at the Riverside Illinois Metra commuter rail station. The morning rush hour commuting period is just about over, and the railroad dispatcher is now putting freight trains out on the line.

The D.E.E.X reporting marks, on the aluminum high side coal hopper cars, indicate that this train is from the Detroit Edison Power Company in the State of Michigan. It is viewed enroute back to the coal mines in Wyoming's Powder River Basin area.

Hi everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

One really good and nicely inexpensive eatery I enjoy eating at in the greater Chicagoland area, is Celli's Italian Beef and Sausage, located at 8080 North Milwaukee Avenue in northwest suburban Niles Illinois. ( Pronounced "Chell - Lees.)

If You really enjoy nice hot fresh home cut French Fries with Your order, then this is the place for You.

Thanks. Eddie K.

I took this photo one very lovely Autum day, back in late October of 1989.

We are on location trackside, in west suburban Hindsdale Illinois.
A westbound Burlington Northern Railroad empty unit coal train, is viewed passing through town.

One unique railroad color scheme I fondly remember growing up as a Chicago railfan during the 1970's and 80's, was the bright orange used on some of the boxcars, covered hoppers and cabooses of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

This color scheme with the split rail logo, was introduced by the Illinois Central Railroad in the year of 1967, and was continued by the succesor railroad Illinois Central Gulf in 1972.

It is a nice looking establishment, with a very unique name.

Just a reminder.

Tommorow, Saturday, November 6th from 1:00 until 3:00 PM......

I took this photo during ne of My "Early" visits to The Hesston Steam Museum, way back in August of 1984.

A miniature 7 and 1/2 Inch track guage 4 - 6 -2 live steram Pacific type steam locomotive, is viewed simmering away at the boarding station between runs.

4-6-2 Pacific type locomotives, were used on passenger trains during the steam era. Some ended their careers pulling freight trains when diesel locomotives replaced them on American railroads during the 1950's.

This one is painted up in Southern Railroad green colors.

Big changes are currently taking place in north suburban Glenview Ilinois.

The old Glenview Public Library located at 1930 Glenview Road, was constructed in 1967. While it was adequate for the first several years, it eventually became small and outdated for this towns needs.

A "New" library was constructed just east of here at the intersection of Harlem Avenue and Glenview Road in 2009 and 2010, and had just opened recently.

The old library is viewed slowly being demolished during a light November morning rain shower.

Southbound Conrail light engine move. Brighton Junction. Chicago Illinois. January 1988.

I tok this photo during a sunny and dry, but yet cold and windy afternoon in January of 1988.

We are facing west at Chicago's Brighton Junction, located just west of the intersection of South Archer and Western Avenues in Chicago's bordering Brighton and Mc Kinley Park neighborhoods on the near southside of the city.

A three unit set of Conrail locomotives running light, are viewed passing through the former Gulf, Mobile & Ohio crosstracks at Brighton Junction.

Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee Railroad electric interurban train at the Wilmette Illinois flag stop depot, circa 1950's.

I spotted this unique historic photo at My links page Dave's Electric Railroads to the right of Your computer screen.

The north suburban village of Wilmette Illinois for many years during the 20th Century, was served by the electric interururban passenger trains of the Chicago, North Shore And Milwaukee electric railroad.

A three car local, is viewed at the little Wilmette flagstop depot on the Shore Line Route, wich was located on the east side of Wilmette. This line wich provided local service and also served Ravinia Park, was abandoned in 1955.

The North Shore Lines other route through Wilmette, was the high speed Skokie Valley Mainline, wich was located on the west side of Wilmette, just east of Glenview Illinois. It was abandoned in 1963 when the Chicago, North Shore And Milwaukee had went out of business for good.

Luckilly, several pieces of Chicago, North Shore And Milwaukee's interurban equipment including the 4 unit articulated streamlined "Electroliner" train from 1941, can be seen and ridden on today at The Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois.

Some North Shore Line equipment also exists at The Fox River Trolley Museum located in South Elgin Illinois as well.

When Chicago Rode The Streetcars to play at The Elmwood Park Public Library. Saturday, November 6th, 2010 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM!

Hi everyone!
This is Eddie K, Your host and photographer here at Eddie's Railfan Page.

On Saturday, November 6th, 2010 from 1:00 until 3:00 PM, I will be hosting an event entitled "The Chicagoland Railfan Photo Slideshow" at the Elmwood Park Public Library. The Library is located at 1 Conti Parkway Circle in near northwest suburban Elmwood Park Illinois.

Due to the popular demand and many requests I have recieved from people who viewed this at My recent show at The Niles Historical Society and Museum on Sunday, October 24th, 2010...I will be showing My homemade musical photo slideshow entitled
"When Chicago Rode The Streetcars", wich is set to authentic historic period music from the era to help set the mood for the show.

If You were one of the many people who had grew up in Chicago prior to the end of CTA electric streetcar service in 1958, or perhaps You also enjoy listening to the "Big Band music of Glen Miller, Artie Shaw or Tommy Dorsey...Then You won't want to miss this presentation being held in the downstairs community room.

I have recieved many requests for this musical photo slide show, as many people loved seeing streetcars in Chicago once again the way it actually was back in the day.

Thanks everyone!

Southbound school bus on Illinois U.S Route #43 Waukegan Road. Bannockburn Illinois. Early June 2010.

Hi everyone!

Welcome aboard the "Bus Day" edition of Eddie's Railfan Page.

A southbound school bus is viewed passing by just south of the intersection of Illinois U.S Route # 22 / Half Day Road.

Harlem Irving Plaza Shopping Center. Norridge Illinois. Tuesday afternoon, October 19th, 2010.

I took this photo recently on North Harlem Avenue in the village of Norridge Illinois at the Chicago city limits.

A Chicago Transit Authority 2006 New Flyer 40 foot transit bus working the CTA Route #90 Harlem Avenue line, prepares to make a stop alongside the Harlem Irving Plaza shopping center.

I spotted this photo at My links page Northern California Bus Fans to the right of Your computer screen.

This photo is entitled "The CTA in 1952".

During the year of 1952, the recently formed Chicago Transit Authority wich began operations in May of 1947, had purchased The Chicago Motor Coach Company. The 1940's era old look General Motors TDH series transit bus that is viewed here, is wearing the "New" CTA logo on the sides of the bus, but the roof still has "The Boulevard Route" slogan lettering from the recently purchased Chicago Motor Coach Company.

Many of the former Chicago Motor Coach GM buses acquired by the CTA in 1952, worked in daily transit service until they were eventually retired between 1970 and 1972. Some went on to become maintenance work service buses after retirement.

Eastbound CTA Route # 62 Archer / Dearborn-Kinzie bus passing the intersection of South Archer Avenue and west 43rd Street AKA Pope John Paul 2nd Drive. Chicago Illinois. April 1989.

I took this photo believe it or not....21 years ago way back in 1989!

We are facing east on South Archer Avenue in Chicago's Brighton Park neighborhood. Seen here heading eastbound on Archer Avenue, is a recently rehabbed CTA 1970's era GMC TDH series fishbowl windshield transit bus. The 1970's era GMC fleet, were operating in their final years of service, and would all be retired in 1996.

The white with blue and red stripes color scheme with a "New" CTA logo, was introduced in 1989.

One of My happy memorys I have growing up as a Chicago railfan, was seeing those yellow and green Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad commuter trains from pre Metra times.

The Illinois Railway Museum in Union Illinois has preserved one of these trains, complete with an EMD F-7 locomotive and a few bi leval gallery commuter coaches in this color scheme I remember from the 1970's era in Chicago.

A community reminder. The Chicagoland Railfan Photo Slideshow is this Saturday, November 6th from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at The Elmwood Park Public Library.

Western Pacific EMD GP-20 # 2010. Ogden Utah. February 1988.

I found this photo on the internet recently.

Although railroads and other transportation companies frequently merge and sometimes lose their old corporate name, color scheme and idenity...It can sometimes take several years to get around to repainting the old equipment acquired by the take over company.

Even though the old Western Pacific Railroad was acquired through merger by the Union Pacific in the year of 1982, this old early 1960's era EMD model GP 20 roadswitcher, was viewed still wearing it's Western Pacific colors and markings in 1988 at Ogden Utah.

The Hesston Steam Museum. Hesston Indiana USA. Sunday, September 12th, 2010.

One of the many behind the scenes "To Do" projects at The Hesston Steam Museum in northwestern Indiana, is the restoration of the 2 foot narrow guage railroad equipment , that operated at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo from 1967 until 1985.

This steam locomotive tender with the Milwaukee Road logo and color scheme, carried the coal and water to fuel the zoo's rebuilt and Americanized meter guage 0-8-0 steam locomotive from Germany.

A view of the hopper on a "New" city of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation Autocar garbage truck. Chicago Illinois. Tuesday, October 5th, 2010.

I took this photo recently in early October of 2010.

A nearly brand new City of Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation Autocar recycling program garbage truck, is viewed parked at Chicago's Brooks Park on North Harlem Avenue, near the border at Niles Illinois.

The City of Chicago's recycling program refuse trucks, wear this unique shade of blue with neon green accents, and messages on the sides promoting recycling.

The pnuematic lifting platforms on the tailgate or "Hopper" as it is known, are the industry standard on garbage trucks today.

Meier's Tavern on Lake Avenue. Wilmette Illinois. Monday, November 1st, 2010.

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

One particular photographic subject that I also find fascinating aside from My usual railfan and other transportation subjects, is anything considered "Roadside Americana". I always seem to enjoy finding those old side of the road businesses from decades ago, that once had been located in rural or outlying areas...but are now part of a suburban area surrounding a large urban metropolis area today.

Meier's Tavern with their very retro neon sign, is located along the southside of Lake Avenue, in the western section of north suburban Wilmette Illinois. This is just east of the village of nearby Glenview Illinois.

This old 1950's era roadside coctail lounge, is located near the remants of the abandoned former Chicago, North Shore and Milwaukee interurban electric railroad's own Skokie Valley Mainline.

Metra coach yard switcher at work. Chicago Illinois. October 2006.

I took this photograph on a lovely Autum morning, back in October of 2006.

We are facing west from the Metra ex Milwaukee Road commuter rail station at Western Avenue, in the city of Chicago Illinois.

A blue Metra EMD yard switcher locomotive, is viewed pulling a small cut of commuter coach cars from a siding, at the nearby large Metra maintenance facility alongside Grand Avenue.

Penn Central Baldwin yard switcher #8339 at camden New Jersey. November 1975. From the internet.

I spotted this photograph at My links page Fallen Flags.Org to the right of Your computer screen.

The Baldwin Locomotive Works wich for many decades happened to be a successful builder of steam locomotives, unfortunately didn't make it as a diesel locomotive builder after World War 2 had ended, and left the business for good during the mid 1950's.

Two of the railroads that had made up the Penn Central merger in 1968, the New York Central and the Pennsylvania Railroad....were large users of Baldwin diesel locomotives. By the early to mid 1970's, they were finally being phased out from service.

That crane boom in the background, indicates that this photo taken at Camden New Jersey may very well be inside a scrap yard.

Village of Wilmette Illinois Department of Public Works dump truck. Wilmette Illinois. Monday, November 1st, 2010.

I took this photo yesterday during My morning lunch break.

The Village of Wilmette Illinois Department of Public Works, is a very busy operation during the fall of any given year. With plenty of those colorful seasonal falling leaves to collect off the streets, potholes to patch before the arrival of winter and village infrastructure to maintain...they more than have their work laid out for them today.
Hmm. Wel, at least the weather was good for doing this.

A small Village of Wilmette Department of Public Works dump truck, is viewed heading eastbound on Lake Avenue enroute to a local worksite.

The Chicago Botanic Garden. Glencoe Illinois USA. Wednsday, September 15th, 2010.

I took this photo during My recent September 2010 visit to The Chicago Botanic Garden in north suburban Glencoe Illinois.

Seen here resting high up on display above the information counter, is an LGB G Scale 1880's era narrow guage 2-6-0 and western style passenger train.

Although the locomotive is painted with markings for the also narrow guage Rio Grande Southern Railroad, the prototype of this locomotive was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia Pennsylvania for the Denver, South Park & Pacific Railroad in 1881.

Both were narrow guage railroads that operated in the state of Colorado.

Pennsylvania Railroad ore car circa 1960's. From the internet.

I found this photograph at My links page Fallen Flags.Org to the right of Your computer screen.

This rather short high sided Gondola style car, was used by the former Pennsylvania Railroad for transporting Iron Ore to the steel mills. The Pennsylvania Railroad had serviced many steel mill operations in the states of Indiana and Ohio.

I found this wonderful and very historic photograph at My links page Dave's Electric Railroads to the right of Your computer screen.

Seen here at the west suburban border of Cicero Illinois near the intersection of West Cermak Road and South Kenton Avenue, are CTA electric streetcars from the 1920's at the transfer point.

The CTA's former pre 1947 Chicago Surface Lines Route # 21 Cermak Road streetcar line, was in it's final years in operation before conversion to transit bus operation in 1954.

This area is still a bus transfer point today between CTA and Pace.
The storefronts are long gone, replaced by stripmalls and vacant lots during the late 1960's and early 1970's.

Southbound CSX Transportation Co light engine movement. Hawthorne Junction. Chicago / Cicero Illinois. March 2007.

I took this photo after work one very early Springtime afternoon, back in March of 2007.

A light running southbound CSX Transportation Company EMD model SD 40-2 roadswitcher locomotive, is viewed approaching Hawthorne Junction at the Chicago city limits border by Cicero Illinois.

This locomotive is traveling southbound over the Belt Railway of Chicago tracks.
