I took this photo after work last night.

The Metra commuter rail station in north suburban Deerfield Illinois, is a classic passenger train station from the steam era that is alive and well today.

This depot originally served passenger trains from the Milwaukee Road Railroad. Today it serves local Metra commuter trains enroute to and from Fox Lake Illinois over the Canadian Pacific ex Milwaukee Road northline.

Interior view of a CTA 6000 series rapid transit car.





I took this photo during the March 1985 "Snowflake Special" chartered CTA rapid transit fantrip, that was sponsored by The Illinois Railway Museum from the town of Union Illinois.

Time was running out for the 1950's era Chicago Transit Authority 6000 series lightweight rapid transit cars in Chicago during the 1980's, and fantrip charters were being operated utilizing these cars.

The 6000 series cars, were built by the St. Louis Car Company, utilizing several "Like New" parts from scrapped CTA post war streamline PCC electric streetcars, that only operated for a decade or less on Chicago's city streets.

By 1986, several CTA 6000 series cars began arriving at The Illinois Railway Museum, and are operated occasionaly today during the museum's operating season.

I took this photo during My August 1990 vacation to Strasburg Pennsylvania.

Strasburg Railroad 0-6-0 steam locomotive # 31, had just emerged from the enginehouse after repairs, and was making a test run during a hot and hazy summer morning near the Cherry Hill Road railroad crossing.

Reconstructing a creek bed. Glenview Illinois. August 2010.











I took this photo this past August, at a local construction project site in north suburban Glenview Illinois.

Along the east side of the very curvy Ravine Way Drive roadway in north suburban Glenview Illinois, is a very shallow inland creek.
This waterway was dammed up further upstream, so that the construction crew could reconstruct the creek bed for better drainage, and to assist the local waterfowl and wildlife residing along the creek.

I spotted this unique dump truck equipped with bulldozer tracks at tyhe construction site. I grew up in Chicago, and have never seen one of these machines up close. No, Not even during the infamous Blizzard of 1979.

One normally associates machines like this with places like Alaska, or the Canadian Rockies.

A popular eatery in southwest suburban Bridgeview Illinois, is The Patio Restaurant, located on South Harlem Avenue near West 93rd Street.

They are famous for their Bar B.Q Ribs, Baked Potatos, Soups and other delicassies. My Parents just can't get enough of this place.

I took this photo one evening this past summer, in August of 2010.

Although there was no immediate sign of any train activity soon at the Metra , College Avenue commuter rail station in far west suburban Wheaton Illinois, the approaching late day shadows just before sunset made for a nice photo nonetheless during My visit.

Hi everyone!
This is Eddie K, Your host and photgrapher here at Eddie's Railfan Page.

Here I am enjoying a fun outing recently this past September, at The Hesston Steam Museum in northwestern Indiana near the Michigan border. The Hesston Steam Museum is located at My links pages to the right of Your computer screen at www.hesston.org

The museum is located in the town of Hesston Indiana, just a few miles south of the State line border at New Buffalo Michigan. It is a lovely Family oriented attraction to visit in the scenic Indiana countryside, that also operates narrow guage steam powered train rides.

Here I am being reunited with what I consider an old Childhood friend of mine. This 2 foot narrow guage gasoline powered replica diesel switcher, originally puleed passenger trains around Chicago's Brookfield Zoo until 1985.

Hesston is a lovely place to visit.

One of My happy memories I have come to experience, was discovering the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad when I attended Chicago's Curie High School from 1977 until 1981.
Directly behind Curie High School, were two railroad branchlines. There was the IHB Stockyards branchline immediately behind the schools back fence. It was in sad shape with rotted ties, kinked rails, and switching locals that resembled the 1950's era New York Central Railroad freight trains.

Approximately 60 feet immediately to the south of the IHB Stockyards branch, was a Brlt Railway of Chicago owned branchline, wich was used by the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe transfer trains arriving and departing from nearby Corwith Yard. The BRC line is still in operation today, heavilly ballasted and very well maintained. The IHB Stockyards branchline, was abandoned in December of 1988, and the rails were removed the following year. The IHB stockyards branchline right of way, would soon be developed in to the CTA orange line rapid transit to Midway Airport. It opened for operation in 1993.

Although this photo was taken at Blue Island Illinois in 1977, this faded IHB jade green caboose with the blanked out cupola windows, was a daily sight that greeted Me every morning when I attended Curie High School. The IHB Stockyards locals utilized these, as well as first generation EMD NW-2 switchers in black and white New York Central colors.

CTA green line train waiting at the Harlem Avenue station. Oak Park Illinois. Sunday, October 10th, 2010.





I took this photo last week.

Judging by the fact that the Chicago Transit Authority green line train is waiting on the westbound platform, this train may have just arrived at the Harlem Avenue (End of the line) station, and is now waiting for clearance to enter the yard just west of here at Forest Park Illinois.

The Chicago Botanic Garden. Glencoe Illinois USA. Wednsday, September 15th, 2010.





I took this photo recently in September of 2010.

One really beautiful place to visit in the greater Chicagoland area, is the Chicago Botanic Garden in north suburban Glencoe Illinois.
With the many flower gardens surronded by an inland lake setting, and even a miniature G Scale outdoor model railroad...it is really worth the drive.
