Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad EMD SD 9 diesel locomotive # 344. Photographed in March of 1969.

I found this photograph at my Link page Fallen Flags.Org, which is located to the right of your
computer screen at www.rr-fallenflags.org.

Prior to the coming of today's BNSF Railway in 1996, there was the Burlington Northern Railroad
from 1970 to 1996, and prior to that, the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad. Today's BNSF
just like the former Burlington Northern, is made up from the mergers of several railroad
companies.

Seen here a year before the 1970 merger of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, the Great Northern Railway, The Northern Pacific Railroad, and the Spokane, Portland & Seatle Railroad, are two
C,B & Q / first generation EMD SD 9 high hood roadswitcher diesel locomotives in two C,B & Q
color schemes.

The locomotive to the left, is wearing the bright red and gray "New Image" C,B & Q color
scheme introduced in 1959, while engine # 344 to the right, is still wearing the 1950's era
C,B & Q "Black Bird" color scheme.
