Afternoon arrival in Franklin Park Illinois USA. June 2007.

I took this photo on Tuesday, June 12th 2007 in northwest suburban Franklin Park Illinois. A westbound afternoon Metra commuter train to Elgin / Big Timber station, has just arrived in town on a hot day in June.

Canadian National diesel locomotives idling in Schiller Park Illinois USA. May 2007.

I took this photo just north of West Lawrence Avenue in northwest suburban Schiller Park Illinois. Seen here behind a fence, are a two unit set of Canadian National Railroad EMD SD 40 -2 roadswitchers idling in the terminal area between assignments. Notice the initials I.C
on the cab side. The Canadian National merged and absorbed the Illinois Central Railroad in 1999. The old roadnames and initials from former railroads acquired through mergers, often live on in subsidiary form, although in this case...the former railroads initials.

A delicious hot bowl of Chilli with a side order of Cheddar Q's. The Wonderburger restaurant. 11045 South Kedzie Avenue. Chicago Illinois USA.

A favorite eating establishment of mine, is the Wonderburger, located at just north of West 111th Street on South Kedzie Avenue. I took this photo after work. I was starving traveling here from the northside, and just couldn't resist a bowl of hot chilli, with a side order of their famous homemade curly fries with cheese. This is definately a place worth stopping for in Chicago's Mount greenwood neighborhood. Lets Eat!

A northbound Canadian National morning freight train approaching West 31st Street. La Grange Park Illinois USA. May 2007.

I took this photo one morning on My way to work, back in May of 2007. Seen here travelling northbound over the Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad line, is a very lenghty and slow moving Canadian National Railroad transfer train approaching the West 31st Street grade crossing.
West 31st Street would soon be backed up with cars , as the train would stop all the traffic for a lenghty period of time. This is a busy crossing.

Eastbound Union Pacific Railroad double stack container train. Hayford Junction. Chicago Illinois USA. Late March 2007.

I took this photo after work, one evening back in late March of 2007. Seen here heading eastbound on the Belt Railway of Chicago trackage, is a lenghty Union Pacific double stack container train, passing over the now single track former Grand trunk Western track. The Grand trunk Western's north south track used to be a mainline track, but is now an industrial spur serving the former Elsdon Yard between 51st and 55th Street. The former Elsdon facility is now a railroad materials storage yard, and is served by a Canadian National switching local.
Hayford Junction is located at West 75th Street and South Central Park Avenue in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood, approximately one mile east of Richard J. Daley college.

Westbound Metra commuter local departing Berwyn station. Berwyn Illinois USA. March 2007.

I took this evening photo after work, at the Metra commuter rail station in downtown Berwyn Illinois. Departing the Berwyn station at Oak Park Avenue and Windsor Street, is an all stops local train enroute to Aurora Illinois. Notice the very light sensitive reflective materials used on the striped wall on the cab control car. My camera flash had actually set it off.

The sole surviving EMD E-5 passenger diesel. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. September 1984.

This is the only surviving example of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad's once proud fleet of 1940's era EMD E-5 streamlined passenger diesel locomotives. The C,B & Q was the only railroad to own the EMD model E-5 locomotive.
Seen here coupled to the museum's 5 car articulated C,B & Q Nebraska Zephyr, is C,B & Q # 9915 originally from the Texas Zephyr passenger train. Still a timeless classic today.
During the 1990's, the locomotives red stripes on the nose that were worn in later years, were replaced by the original black nose stripes, along with a refurbished Burlington Route nose herald, thus restoring the museum locomotive to it's original appearance.

Northbound Chicago ,South Shore & South Bend Railroad commuter train arriving at the Randolph Street Station. Chicago Illinois USA. May 1983.

An overcast morning in the spring of 1983, finds this inbound train of electric Interurban / Commuter coaches from the South Shore railroad, arriving at the Randolph Street station.
The Chicago, South Shore & South Bend Railroad had just recently upgraded their roster with these new lightweight cars, and soon the old wooden platforms seen here, would be replaced by concrete ones. This site has since been redeveloped, and is now Chicago's Millenium Park. An overhead concrete and steel deck now covers this view, moving the train station into an underground subway style configuration today.

Eastbound CTA Pink Line train crossing South Kilbourn Avenue. Chicago Illinois USA. April 2007.

I took this photo after work one evening in April of 2007. Seen here heading east enroute to downtown Chicago, is a CTA Pink line train. This was formerly known as the Douglas Park Elevated Line in past years, and for awhile was one of two CTA Blue line branches. The train had just left the Cicero Avenue station in nearby west suburban Cicero Illinois.

Westbound Metra local stopping at the La Grange Road station. La Grange Illinois USA. April 2007.

A westbound Metra all stops commuter local to Aurora Illinois, is seen arriving in downtown La Grange Illinois in Chicago's western suburbs.
Heavy rain showers and cold temperatures in the low 50's, made this springtime after work photo shoot a challenge. It was a wet evening to be out.
This was photographed on the BNSF Railway .

A chance encounter with the CSX Transportation West 16th Street local. Cicero Illinois USA. April 2007.

I took this photo looking west on West 16th Street in the village of Cicero Illinois. Seen here through My cars front windshield, is the eastbound CSX Transportation industrial switching local that serves an old factory district.
The locals crew had just finished setting out and picking up cars at a nearby industry, and were returning to the Belt Railway of Chicago interchange near South Kostner Avenue ,across the border in the city of Chicago Illinois.
This former B&O line has a unique side of the road flavor.

Westbound CTA Flxible Metro coach. Intersection of West Addsison Street and North Harlem Avenue. Chicago Illinois USA. October 2006.

Good morning everybody!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois. Today is BUS DAY here at My transportation blog site. Today, I will be sharing some local Chicagoland transit bus photos I had taken back in October of 2006.

I took this lovely sunrise morning photograph, at the intersection of West Addison Street and North Harlem Avenue -U.S Route # 43. It seemed like the working day city of Chicago, was just waking up when I captured this scene on Chicago's northwest side. It was a beautiful morning in the windy city.

Rush hour mechanical problems on Belmont Avenue. Chicago Illinois USA. Early October 2006.

I photographed this rush hour bus terminal scene, in early October of 2006. This is a rush hour only auxilliary turn around loop, wich is located at West Belmont Avenue and North Octavia Avenue on Chicago's northwest side.
It appears that one of the newer NOVA buses, has began to experience mechanical problems, and the transit supervisor is now on the scene.
Support operations are important in keeping large transit agencys like the Chicago Transit Authority up and running.

Northbound blue Pace Route # 331 bus on Thatcher Avenue. River Grove Illinois USA. October 2006.

A northbound Pace Route # 331 bus, has just crossed over the Canadian Pacific train tracks by the River Grove Metra commuter rail station, and is now passing the Elmwood Cemetery. This was a lovely Autum morning to be outside, in lovely scenic River Grove Illinois.

Westbound blue Pace Route # 322 Yorktown bus. Berwyn Illinois USA. October 2006.

I took this photo after work one friday evening last fall, back in October of 2006. Chicago's west suburban village of Berwyn Illinois, has many photographic opportunities for both train and bus enthusiasts. This rush hour scene, was photographed on West 22nd Street / Cermak Road between Harlem and Oak park Avenues.

Summer evening fun at the Saint Richard's parish carnival. Chicago Illinois USA. July 1988.

For many years in the city of Chicago...My summer
wasn't complete without a visit or two at the annual
summer carnival at Saint Richard's Catholic parish.
Saint Richard's parish was located on South Kostner Avenue
and West 50th Street near Chicago's Midway Airport.
This carnival was a real blast to attend with Live bands -
good food -rides -games -and My old 8MM Kodak Brownie
wind up silent movie camera in hand. As You can see...The
35MM photographic opportunities weren't too bad either.
When I was litterly stuck inside during the wintertime, I would fire up the projector or watch the movies I had dubbed to VHS,
and watch the people strolling around in shorts and tank tops.

Evening switching activity along West 26th Street. The BNSF Railway Clyde Yard. Cicero Illinois USA. May 2007.

I took this photo one evening after work, in May of 2007. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway's Clyde Yard, is a very busy Chicago rail hub. The activity here is practically non stop 24 Hours a day, seven days a week. Two BNSF EMD roadswitchers are seen under the Laramie Avenue overpass bridge. Notice the lead unit still in predesscor railroad Burlington Northern colors. This was a lovely evening to go train spotting on location with a camera.

Eastbound railroad traffic jam on the BNSF Railway. Chicago Illinois USA. May 2007.

I took this photo looking east, from the South Central Avenue overpass bridge near the I-55 Stevenson Expressway. An intermodal container train, and a set of diesels from the Norfolk Southern Railroad, are seen stuck waiting on a hold order. Nearby Nerska Junction was occupied with many north and south Belt Railway of Chicago transfer trains. It would be quiete awhile before these crews would be allowed to proceed anywhere on this line.
Railroad crews frequently experience long work days due to all the time that is spent waiting.

Springtime at the Edgebrook Metra commuter rail station. Chicago Illinois USA. May 2007.

The outside temperatures are finally in the upper 70's, and the trees and plants are in full bloom. This lovely springtime afternoon scene was photographed in May of 2007, on Chicago's far northwest side near Devon and Caldwell Avenues. The Edgebrook neighborhood near the Chicago city limits, is a pleasant and upscale community near Niles and Skokie.
