Metra heavy track maintenance work. Glenview Illinois. Monday, May 10th 2010.

I took this photo yesterday afternoon when I was returning to work from My late morning lunch break.

We are facing west from adjacent Johns Drive in north suburban Glenview Illinois, as what appears to be a Metra M.O.W (maintenance of way) department track geometry vechicle, is performing major track maintenance along the Canadian Pacific ex Milwaukee Road northline. Glenview has been the scene of heavy railroad infrastructure maintenance activity lately.

Between ballast tampers, burro cranes, Hi Rail vechicles, flatcars full of railroad ties being unloaded on site with medium self propelled cranes, track speeders, and even Metra EMD switcher locomotives with transfer cabooses...It has been one busy location in Chicago's northern suburbs.

With all the crews working on site with their safety vests most everywhere along the mainline, all the regular trains passing through here are now temporarily operating on slow orders.

If You like railroad maintenance activity...come to Glenview soon.
