One place I always enjoyed lineside railfanning with My camera in hand, was the Metra Western Avenue station at North Western Avenue and West Hubbard Street near Chicago's Ukranian Village neighborhood.
located approximately 2 miles west of downtown Chicago Illinois, this old brick elevated train station originally served passenger trains from the Milwaukee Road.
Just west of the station, are two Metra coach yard maintenance facilities. The one immediately west of the station is a former Milwaukee Road facility, the other one adjacent to the paralel running Union Pacific ex Chicago & NorthWestern Railroad line, is a former C & N,W facility from when these two former railroad entities competed with each other.
There are no freight trains passing through this area, just 100% Metra commuter trains and M.O.W /Maintenance of Way extras. To the immediate east of the station on top of the Northwestern Avenue underpass viaduct, is an old railroad interlocking tower that is still in service today.
