I spotted this photo on the internet recently.
These large 54 foot covered hopper cars, were introduced to North American railroads during the 1960's. Very practical, this design is still in use today with few modifications if any.
This example from the now fallen flag railroad Western Pacific, is lettered with large Roman style lettering on the sides. Roman style lettering was the industry standard on North American railroads for many years, going back to the steam era.
