Saint Richard's Catholic Church Parish 1987 Summer Carnival. Chicago Illinois. July 1987.

During the 1980's, one of My all time favorite Summertime activities, was attending the annual neighborhood
Summer church carnival at the Saint Richard's Catholic Parish Church at West 50th Street and South Kostner Avenue, in Chicago's Garfield Ridge neighborhood near Midway Airport.

I took this photograph during their July 1987 carnival.

Every year, Saint Richard's carnival would feature a specific "Theme" to their event.

The 1987 carnival at saint Richard's Parish, featured a "Polynesian" or "South Pacific" theme.

I am not entirely sure, but I believe that the gentleman in this photograph who was the official Master of Ceremony on the contest stage dressed in costume as U.S General Douglas Mac Aurther from the World War 2 era, was one of the Priests who had served at Saint Richard's Parish. Perhaps this man was one of the many church volunteers that made this event happen.

Saint Richard's Carnival, was discontinued sometime after the 2007 event, and replaced by the annual Labor Day Weekend "Taste of Garfield Ridge " celebration in the church parking lot.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
