Southbound CTA Yellow line / Skokie Swift train crossing Main Street. Skokie Illinois USA. April 2007., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
I took this photograph one lovely springtime morning, back in April of 2007.
We are on location in north suburban Skokie Illinois, at the Main Street CTA yellow line railroad crossing.
A southbound Chicago Transit Authority yellow line / Skokie Swift rapid transit train, is viewed crossing main street. Notice the remaining roof walks on top of these cars. Prior to 2004, this line was operated under overhead electric catenary wires with pantographs mounted on top of the cars, from East Prairie Road to Dempster Street in Skokie Illinois. The eastern section of the line from East Prarie Road until Howard Street in Evanston Illinois, was operated with 3rd rail power.
Today this line shown here, is operated with 100 percent 3rd rail power.
