The River Grove Illinois Metra commuter rail station. December 1st, 2006., a photo by Eddie from Chicago on Flickr.
Since I moved to Elmwood Park Illinois in 2006 upon my becoming a husband, one of my favorite local train spotting locations just west of my town, is the Metra commuter rail station in neighboring River Grove Illinois.
Located just north of Grand Avenue along the west side of Thatcher Avenue ( Cumberland), the action is 24 -7 here on the Canadian Pacific ex Milwaukee Road west line mainline.
Commuter trains operate over this line 7 days a week from Chicago to Elgin Illinois, while several freight trains can be viewed here as well. many of the freight trains are transfer trains going to and from the former Milwaukee Road Bensenville Yard.
This depot has been repainted a few times in recent years. In 2006, the depot had this unique light brown shade, but has long since been repainted to today's dark green with gold River Gold lettering.
