I took this photo looking east at Hayford Junction, way back in January of 1987. A very heavy snowstorm had fallen on the city of Chicago one Saturday morning in January, and had stopped approximately one hour before I had arrived at Hayford junction with My 35MM camera.
A northbound Grand Trunk Western container train, is seen passing over the Belt Railway of Chicago crosstracks at west 75th Street and South Central Park Avenue. The GTW back then, was still a mainline running through here. Today, it is a single track spur branchline serving the former Elsdon Yard site. The old Elsdon site on west 51st Street near South Lawndale avenue, is now used as a railroad construction and maintenance materials storage depot yard.
