Eastbound Metra rush hour commuter local. Elmwood Park Illinois USA. Early September 2007.

I took this photo one evening after work around sunset. An eastbound Metra rush hour commuter local enroute to Chicago Union Station, is seen crossing Grand Avenue, and slowing for the stop at the Elmwood Park Metra commuter rail station in Chicago's near northwest suburbs.

Notice all of the autos that are in front of the railroad gate. This is what cause the last auto vs. train collision at this crossing. Which happened on the day before Thanksgiving two years ago.

At least they did not stop on the tracks this time.

Aaaah! I see that You remeber that.
I was at home that night. I live about six blocks from the tracks, and didn't recall hearing any BANG of any kind. I do recall hearing emergency police and fire sirens responding to the scene, and turning on the TV to suddenly find this developing story on a news bulletin. It was a local mess!

My Wife begged Me to not go over the railroad crossing on Grand Avenue in My car for at least two months afterwards.

She eventually got over it.

Thank You.
Eddie.
