I took this photograph in September of 1985, while on a 20th Century Railroad Club charter. We had rode to and from Sterling Illinois behind Steam Locomotive # 765 From the former Nickle Plate Road. This was the HOTTEST day of the year as the temperature outside had topped 100 degrees. I took this photograph near the Sterling boarding area as I was waiting for our return train to be Serviced and turned around on a nearby wye switch. The Chicago and North Western Railroad had bought these EMD Roadswitchers during the early to mid 1950's. After many years of service -rebuildings -and a new paint job or two, they served the C & N W well untill the 1998 merger and absorbtiopn by the Union Pacific Railroad.
