Preserved Rock Island Railroad steel caboose. Tinley Park Illinois USA. October 1998.

I took this photograph on a lovely sunny and mild day on location, in Southwest Suburban Tinley Park Illinois. This old steel caboose is from the Chicago, Rock Island , & Pacific Railroad. This was a major railroad that operated in and around Chicago and parts of the Midwest. The railroad was having numerous financial difficulties in later years , and went out of business due to Bankruptcy in the year 1980. The Rock Island didn't survive, but this caboose did luckily. It is on display in a large city park along 80th Avenue near 171 st Street.

Gee...this caboose looks familiar...I just can't place it!

I was wondering if you ever got photo of this. Did you ever see the engine at the crossing over Harlem Ave?

Hi Tom.
Thats right buddy, this old caboose
is just blocks away from Your house. As for that old engine...I believe that You are referring to that "Fireless Industrial 0-4-0 at the Tinley Park Metra station on Oak Park Avenue. I have several pictures of this. Both day and night photographs.

Thank You.
Eddie.
