I took this wintertime photo of a park displayed steam locomotive, during the notorious Febuary 2007 Chicagoland Deep Freeze. Clear skies and brilliant sunshine offered a small consolation to sharp windchill factors, and single digit daytime temperatures. Chicago Gravel Company # 18 was built by the American Locomotive Company in 1922, and origianally worked in South Bend Indiana as the Studebaker Automobile Factory plant switcher. It was later sold second hand to the Chicago Gravel Company in South Elgin Illinois where it worked untill retirement switching a local quarry. It was donated cosmetically restored to the village of Bensenville Illinois in the year of 1961, and has been on display here in Veterans Park ever since. This locomotive, coach and caboose display, is located on Main Street just east of Church Road.
