Seen here during a lovely sunset in September of 2006, is the "New" Metra commuter rail station that was dedicated in 2003. The original Metra station that stood here had burned to the ground in a late night fire. The new station is larger and more elaborate. Commuter trains operate on this line 7 days a week between Chicago and Joliet Illinois. A few freight trains a day pass through here from the Iowa Interstate Railroad. Prior to the year of 1980, this was the mainline of the former and very bankrupt Rock Island Railroad.
