I took this photo on a hot and humid summer afternoon in June of 2007. A Canadian National freight train has just left the former Illinois Central Hawthorne Yard in Cicero Illinois, and is now rounding the interchange curve that connects to the Belt Railway of Chicago tracks at Hawthorne Junction. The train is moving very slowly and the wheel flanges are squeeling loudly on the curve. Notice the third and last diesel locomotive in Illinois Central colors and markings. The CN absorbed the I.C through a large corporate buy out merger in 1999.Tuesday, March 04, 2008
