I took this photo on an August 1986 visit to the city of Ottawa Illinois. Seen here on display in a city park after a nice cosmetic restoration, is Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Mikado type steam locomotive # 4978. This locomotive was built in the 1920's, and used in freight train service.At some point during the 1990's, this locomotive and wooden caboose team, were moved to Mendota Illinois. Today they are the centerpiece attraction at the Mendota Railroad Museum, wich is adjacent to the BNSF Railway mainline.
