I took this photo on a sunny Saturday afternoon in December of 1986, on one of My many visits to Chicago's Mount Greenwood neighborhood.This was the original Mount Greenwood neighborhood public library, wich was then located in a storefront building on the east side of South Kedzie Avenue at approximately west 109th Street. This facility was already outdated
and quiet inadequette by the mid 1980's.
A new and much larger Chicago Public library building was erected across the street at approximately 110th Street during the early 1990's, replacing an old gasoline service station.

While I never went to that branch it sort of reminds me of the old Archer Heights branch near Archer and Kostner.
The old Westlawn branch at West 63rd Street and South pulaski Road was like this before they built that big modern one across the street in the late 1980's.

I was just about to say that... that's where I got my first library card as a little girl.
I remember this place... I also got my first Library card from there. I grew up at 105th & Kedzie & use to live near one of the Librarians (Carol Roache).
I have not been to the new facility as I've moved out of town but have driven past it.

If I'm not mistaken the library was on the west side of Kedzie Ave. just down from the Jewel Tea grocery store. I did a lot of homework there as a kid

The Chicago Public Library branch shown here, was located on the east side of South Kedzie Avenue near 109th Street.
I have to admit...it is very small by todays standards.
