In bitterly cold 6 degrees above zero Farenheight conditions with a cold wind blowing out of the west, is what I braved to capture this bright and sunny winter railroad photograph. Hi everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

I grew up o the southwest side of Chicago Myself, and took this photo at a location that has always been very special to Me. Looking southeast from the northeast corner of West 63rd Street and South Cicero Avenue, We spot an arriving Southwest Airlines jet coming in for a landing at Chicago's Midway Airport just across the street from Me to the west.

The abandoned Frosted Mug Drive In Restaurant. Alsip Illinois. June 2009.

I took this photo one summer night, in June of 2009.

A favorite eating place I frequently enjoyed visiting, was the very retro Frosted Mug. The Frosted Mug drive in restaurant was located at South Pulaski Road and West 116th Street in south suburban Alsip Illinois. From 1985 until the place eventually closed in 2007, I would enjoy a Tuesday or Saturday evening session when they used to have their "Car Shows" on the property.

When I took this photo, It was quiete clear that some remodeling work had taken place on the interior. The drive inrestaurant itself however, was in a state of dormant abandonement facing an uncertain future.

The Frosted Mug was one of the last roadside drive in restaurants in the Chicago area that still had year round car hop service. A throw back to the 1950's and 60's Baby boomer era.

The Talman Home bank at W 55th St and South Kedzie Avenue. Chicago Illinois. December 1986.

Hi everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

I took this photo on a bitterly cold December night way back in 1986. I was experimenting with taking night time time exposures with My 35 MM camera with a buddy of mine. With outside temperatures in the single digits, it was not a very pleasant experience. But the pictures We took turned out great that night.

We are looking north from West 55th Place and South Kedzie Avenue, in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. A Chicago Police Department patrol car arrived on the scene to answer a malfunctioning alarm call. Once the bank security guard explained to the Chicago Police Officer that everything was actually alright, He quietly left the south parking lot.

An older neighborhood gentlemen walked by our tripods, and asked us
"Did You get a photo of that cop robbing the bank?" Ha ha ha!

A god photo, a good laugh, and a happy memory from the southwest side of Chicago for Me that night.

Jakter Hotel at West 47th Street and South Kedzie Avenue. New Years Day 1983.

One of the more obscure local Chicago neighborhood subjects that I had photographed during the early 1980's, was the Jakter Hotel at the intersection of West 47th Street and South Kedzie Avenue in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood.

This was one of the last southside Chicago transient skid row type of hotels in existance. The upcoming demolition was announced in the local Chicago newspapers shortly before I snapped this photo. Here is the Jakter Hotle looking north on South Kedzie Avenue on a quiet and sunny New Years Day in January of 1983.

When I occasionally look back at the decade of the 1980's, many happy memorys of afternoons in downtown west suburban La Grange come to mind. I had spent much time here on again / off again railfaning the Burlington Northern mainline with My 35mm Pentex ME Super in hand back then.

I took this photo on an overcast winter afternoon way back in Febuary of 1985. A westbound Burlington Northern commuter train enroute to Aurora Illinois, is viewed arriving at the La Grange Road Amtrak / Metra commuter rail station in downtown west suburban La Grange Illinois. Preserved 1980 GMC RTS model transit bus from Janesville Wisconsin. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois. Friday, July 3rd 2009.

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard the " Bus Day" edition of Eddie's Railfan Page.

I took this photo inside the bus barn at the Illinois Railway Museum.
General Motors Corporation had introduced the stylish and quiete spartan RTS model transit bus during the late 1970's. This model of transit bus had replaced the old fishbowl windshield TDH series transit buses that were introduced in 1959. The GMC fishbowl windshield buses, worked on may different transit companys in the United States and Canada for many years, until retirements started taking place during the 1990's.

Thomas wasn't always a company that manufactured school bus bodies, their roots go back to at least the early 1900's. The original name of the company, was the Pearly A. Thomas Car Company. This company manufactured standard electric city streetcars or "Trolleys" as some people called them. Many original 1920's era Pearly A. Thomas electric streetcars, are still in service today in the city of New Orleans Louisianna.

I photographed this digital live sound video on the afternoon of Sunday, September 27th 2009. We are looking through and over the chain link fence, along the southwest curve of the Kiddieland Amusement Park's Miniature Railroad ride.

Sunday, September 27th 2009 was the last day of operation at Chicago's Kiddieland Amusement Park in near northwest suburban Melrose Park Illinois. After 81 years in operation, the park was officially closing for good. The sad day was appropriately overcast and rainy.

The Kiddieland limited steam train, was making one of several last runs on this day.
I tried to get the locomotive operators attention to blow the whistle, but unfortunately He ignored Me. I can't blame Him either. His mind was definately somewhere elese. This video is a scene of an era coming to an end in the greater Chicagoland area. Kiddieland will be missed by many. R.I.P 1928 -2009.

I was only 14 years old and using My parent's Kodak 110 Pocket camera when I took this photo back in early November of 1976. I would not own My first 35mm camera until almost 7 years later from the time of this photo.

My Family and I, visited the Illinois Railway Museum on a sunny but chilly day in early November of 1976. The regular museum operating season was practically over, but they were operating a former Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad city streetcar that operated originally in Waukeegan Illinois on this day.

This is a behind the scenes image of museum support operations at work. This trio of electric interurban trolley freight motors, are viewed switching museum rolling stock in the yard sidings.

This was how the Illinois Railway Museum looked like back in much simpler earlier times. They only had a little over a mile of mainline demonstration track, and the trolley loop didn't exist yet.

Marzano's Miami Bowl on South Archer Avenue. (Gone.) Chicago Illinois. September 2004.

Hello everyone!
Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page from the city of Chicago Illinois.

I am originally a Southside Chicagoan Myself, and have many happy memorys of hanging out at Marzano's Miami Bowl at South Archer Avenue and Pulaski Road in Chicago's Archer Heights neighborhood near Midway Airport.

I took this photo in September of 2004, shortly after it was announced in the Chicago Sun Times Newspaper...That Marzano's Miami Bowl was closing after being in business for many years. Miami bowl was indeed demolished during 2005 and 2006.

It was a fun place and I miss this local Chicago neighborhood bowling alley.

An eastbound BNSF Railway freight train enroute to the nearby Clyde Yard in west suburban Cicero Illinois, is viewed crossing Harlem Avenue in west suburban Berwyn Illinois. The train is leaving Riverside Illinois to the left, and entering Berwyn on the right. Harlem Avenue is the border between these two suburban towns just outside of the city of Chicago Illinois.

Durango & Silverton Railroad steam locomotive # 481 arriving at Silverton Colorado. July 1981.

I took this photo in Silverton Colorado during a July 1981 family Motorbus vacation I had went on. The trip visited the states of Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. The Durango and Silverton Railroad itself was also new as an independent tourist railroad in 1981, as it was operated until very recently by the Denver & Rio Grande western Railroad.
