The CTA Southport Avenue elevated rapid transit station. Chicago Illinois USA. April 1986.
I took this photo during a railfan photo stop aboard a 1986 CTA fantrip.
The excursion was advertised as "The Snowflake Special", and was sponsored by the Illinois Railway Museum located in Union Illinois.
The trip utilized eight 1950's era CTA 6000 series lightweight rapid transit cars that were built by the St. Louis Car Company.
Before the Chicago Transit Authority began their current system of color coding the rapid transit lines in 1993, the various elevated and subway routes had their own unique names. The station here on North Southport Avenue, is located in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood between West Addison Street and Irving Park Road.
Today, this line is known as the CTA brown line, but back in 1986...this route was known as The Ravenswood Elevated line.
