The abandoned Frosted Mug drive in restaurant. Alsip Illinois USA. June 2009.
I took this photo one summer night, in June of 2009.
A favorite eating place I frequently enjoyed visiting, was the very retro Frosted Mug. The Frosted Mug drive in restaurant was located at South Pulaski Road and West 116th Street in south suburban Alsip Illinois. From 1985 until the place eventually closed in 2007, I would enjoy a Tuesday or Saturday evening session when they used to have their "Car Shows" on the property.
When I took this photo, It was quiete clear that some remodeling work had taken place on the interior. The drive inrestaurant itself however, was in a state of dormant abandonement facing an uncertain future.
The Frosted Mug was one of the last roadside drive in restaurants in the Chicago area that still had year round car hop service. A throw back to the 1950's and 60's Baby boomer era.
