Preserved Chicago Surface Lines car # 144 on the trolley loop. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. August 2006.
Although I was born too late to experience electric streetcar transit operations firsthand in the city of Chicago Illinois when I was growing up, one can still ride aboard one of a few preserved and operating examples from Chicago's transit days past at the Illinois Railway Museum. Car # 144 shown here, was built by the Pulman Standard Car Company of Chicago in 1908. It operated in daily service on Chicago city streets until May of 1954. Today, it carries passengers aboard the museum's demonsration trolley loop.
