I took this photo looking north alongside west 51st Street, in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood.
Although the Grand Trunk Western had closed down the 14 track Elsdon Yard and roundhouse in October of 1983, a small degree of railroad crew support operations took place at this location just north of west 51st Street, until September of 1986. Locomotives were often staged and refueled by a tanker truck at this location near the yard office.
The orange EMD roadswitchers, were acquired in 1981 via the merger and takeover of the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad.
