I found this old photo I had taken in November of 1983, while I was researching My own photo archives recently. An inbound Chicago & NorthWestern / RTA commuter train is approaching the old 1911 built terminal, while an eastbound Chicago Transit Authority rapid transit train passes overhead on what was known back then as The Lake Street Elevated line. The old bridge the CTA train is passing over has long since been replaced with a modern girder bridge, the C&NW was bought out by the Union Pacific Railroad during the late 1990's and operate the commuter trains over the former C&NW lines. The RTA commuter train agency, became Metra in the year of 1984. The old NorthWestern Station was demolished in 1984, and replaced with a tall skyscraper building originally called the NorthWestern Atrium Center. After the merger with the Union Pacific, the NorthWestern Atrium Center was renamed to todays Richard B. Ogilvie Transportation Center in honor of the late Illinois Govoner who passed away in the year of 1988.
Many things have changed, but the Metra commuter trains still arrive and depart here daily.
