Another day is coming to an end, as night time approaches northwest suburban Elmwood Park Illinois. The sun is already well over the horizon, as the fading and colorful remnants of a lovely early Spring day, capture the Grand Avenue
railroad crossing signal in silhoutted splendor.
Soon, it would be nightime in Chicagoland.

Eddie, as you know, the tracks and street intersect at such an unusually long and broad angle at this location, that when traveling east on Grand Avenue a look in the rearview mirror is quite unusual: the tracks actually look like they are stretching out directly behind you, almost as if you are riding along them momentarily.
This rearview mirror effect can be especially startling if a train headlight is approaching in the distance, but you're moving through the intersection because the gates haven't dropped yet.
This location frequently sees cars "stuck" on the tracks, because of a nearby traffic signal and drivers not being careful enough to not proceed across the long crossing before being sure they can make it all the way across. Wasn't it just a couple years ago that there was a large pile-up of cars in a collision with a train here?
