The railroad crossing gate is backlit by the setting sun, on a lovely summer evening back in August of 2006. Another summer day is ending in Chicagoland. I took this photo looking west toward South Oak Park Avenue, from the Metra Tinley Park commuter rail station. Prior to the year of 1980, this was the former Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, aka The Rock Island Line. Today, a small handfull of run through freight trains from the Iowa Interstate Railroad speed through this town. Railroad traffic is mostly Metra commuter rail trains operating between Chicago and Joliet Illinois on this particular railroad mainline.Friday, June 29, 2007
