I took this photo after work one lovely Spring evening back in May of 2007. The facility shown here, is the former Illinois Central Crawford Yard on Chicago's near southwest side. In the year of 1999, the Canadian National Railroad merged and absorbed the former Illinois Central Railroad. On any given day, this little facility on the old I.C Iowa division mainline, can find locomotives from fallen flag railroads acquired through mergers. An example being this former Grand trunk Western blue and red EMD Roadswitcher. Sometimes former Illinois central diesels in full 1990's black with white markings, can be found spotting cars here at Crawford Yard. Crawford Yard is just a few city blocks east of Hawthorne Junction along West 33rd Street, between South Pulaski road , and South Kostner Avenue near the Chicago city limits.Friday, June 29, 2007
