A remnant from a short lived regional railroad. A former Chicago, Central & Pacific hopper car passing through Bridgeview Illinois. August 2007.

One never knows the kind of historical relics that still may be rolling around in long since disappeared railroad markings. I spotted this former Chicago, Central & Pacific Railroad faded red coal hopper, passing through Bridgeview Illinois on a southbound Indiana Harbor Belt transfer train. The Chicago, Central & Pacific RR was created in 1985, when the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, had sold their Iowa Division Mainline from Chicago to Waterloo Iowa to a group of investors. The C,C ,& P was in existance from 1985 to 1996, when the recently reorganized Illinois Central bought the line back. The Illinois Central operated this line once again as their Iowa Division Mainline, untill merger and takeover by the Canadian National in 1999.
Only a small handfull of locomotives and cars ever got repainted by the C,C,& P, as most of the equipment was actually second hand Illinois Central Gulf rolling stock. Some recieved patched over paint jobs that would cover the old roadname, and have the new name on the older colors.
