Ed and Erv's Centrella Food Mart at 2210 West Touhy Avenue. Chicago Illinois. July 2007.

I took this photo back in the year of 2007.

Chicago wasn't always the fabled land of giant corporate supermarket grocery stores like Jewel / Osco, Dominicks Finer Foods and Superwalmart. For many years, there was an abundance of these quaint and old fashioned family owned Mom and Pop neighborhood grocery stores.

With a tiled front and hand painted letters, Ed and Erv's Centrella Food Mart at 2210 West Touhy Avenue on Chicago's far northside, is a surviving example from those much simpler times of the past.

It is a tiny two aisled grocery store with a butcher shop inside, right out of the 1930's and 40's era. A pleasant image of Chicago neighborhood scenes past.
