Westbound U.P transfer train at Hayford JCT. Early Sept 1990.

I took this photo one pleasant Saturday afternoon, way back in early September of 1990.

We are on location at Hayford Junction, located at West 75th Street and South Central Park Avenue in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood.

Seen here heading slowly westbound over the Belt Railway of Chicago tracks, is a Union Pacific transfer freight train approaching the Grand Trunk Western crosstracks at Hayford Junction, enroute to the Belt Railway of Chicago Clearing Yard in nearby Bedford Park Illinois.

Notice the large red Missouri Pacific markings on the side of the lead locomotive. The Union Pacific Railroad had acquired the Missouri Pacific through merger in the year of 1982. Some former Missouri Pacific locomotives recieved yellow and gray Union Pacific colors with red U.P style Missour Pacific lettering after the merger.
