This photo was taken looking north from adjacent West 51st Street just east of South Lawndale Avenue in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood.
After the Grand Trunk Western Railroad had officially closed their Elsdon Yard facility at this location, the little yard office had served as a crew terminal and light maintenance depot until September of 1986. Locomotives were often fueled on site here by tractor trailer semi tank trucks, but unfortunately never when I had My camera with Me.
This was what was left of anything resembling Elsdon operations after the roundhouse at West 49th Street and South Kedzie Avenue, as well as Elsdon Yard itself had closed in October of 1983.
