Maintaining the overhead trolley wire. The Illinois Railway Museum. Union Illinois USA. Friday, July 3rd 2009.
One of the nice things about visiting an operating electric railway museum, are being there with a camera in hand to capture those rare and sometimes unplanned photos of museum support operations.
A crew from the IRM electrical department, is viewed performing repairs to the overhead trolley wire on the museum's mainline. Using vintage maintenance equipment from interurban railroading's past, this view easilly can give one an understanding of how electric railroad infrastructure was maintained 60 to 70 years ago or so.
Heck, these pieces of vintage non revenue equipment...outlived their own railroads that they had worked for originally. They are performing the same kind of work that they were originally designed for in 2009.
