I took this photo on a hot July day in 1989. Seen here during much better times, is a two unit Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe transfer train. The train is now passing the Hayford Junction traffic control building at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad crosstrack. The single story traffic control or dispatchers tower, was demolished around 1993. The old GT Hayford sign is still there today, however it has been painted over in gray paint, proboubly after the total absorbtion by the Canadian National in recent years. The word "Hayford" can be seen showing through the weathered coat of gray paint. This view is looking southwest, just north of the Belt Railway of Chicago east / west railroad line.
