Locomotives being serviced at the Grand Trunk Western RR Elsdon engine terminal. Chicago Illinois USA. October 1983.

I took this photograph way back in October of 1983.

This photograph was actually taken during the final week of operation at the Grand Trunk Western Railroad's Elsdon Yard and locomotive terminal at approximately West 49th Street and South Kedzie Avenue, in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood.

The week after I took this photograph, the 1914 built roundhouse , locomotive terminal and freight yard...resembled an abadoned ghost town.

The former GTW Elsdon locomotive terminal, was demolished in January of 1988, and replaced by an outdoor retail strip mall in 1989.

Thanks.
Eddie K.
