Norfolk & Western Railroad EMD GP 35 # 208. Perkins Illinois. September 16th, 1983.

One railroad that I fondly remember serving the south side of Chicago during the 1960's through the early 1980's, was the former Norfolk & Western Railroad. I had relatives that lived near the N & W's former Wabash Railroad mainline and Landers Yard facility, in Chicago's Ashburn neighborhood, and looked forward to seeing N & W trains during the 1970's and 80's whenever I would visit them.

The Norfolk & Western introduced this NW new image black and white color scheme in 1971, and used it untl the merger with the Southern Railway in 1982, that created todays Norfolk Southern Railroad. Railfan photographer Dennis Schmidt, photographed N & W high hood EMD GP 35 diesel locomotive # 208, leading a freight train at Perkins Illinois on September 16th, 1983.

This photograph and several other really wonderful prototype photos, can be viewed at my lik page Fallen Flags.Org, located to the right of your computer screen at www.rr-fallenflags.org.

Thanks.
