We are looking northeast toward the intersection of West 47th Street and South Kedzie Avenue, in Chicago's Elsdon neighborhood. After many years of being a neighborhood eyesore, the old Jakter Hotel on West 47th Street and South Kedzie Avenue was closed in December of 1982, and demolished in Febuary of 1983. This was a skid row type of transient hotel, that no longer would
"Fit In"on Chicago's southwest side. The land it was on was worth good money, and the place was sold and demolished, to make way for a new strip mall on this corner. Notice, there isn't any of the temporary rental fencing that would surround a site like this today, but rather a makeshift row of 4' x 8 plywood boards along the west side of the building on South Kedzie Avenue. The safety standards have certainly changed in 24 years.
