Eastbound Metra commuter rail train leaving the River Grove station. River Grove Illinois USA. August 2007.

I took this photo after work one late afternoon, in early August of 2007. We are looking south on Thatcher Avenue -U.S Route # 171 in northwest suburban River Grove Illinois, as an inbound Metra commuter local enroute to Chicago Union Station, is seen departing the River Grove Metra commuter rail station just before sunset. The locomotive with the stylish paint job, is a Motive Power Industries model MPI -MP 36 PH. These locomotives are catching on with other commuter rail agencies in the United States.

What is getting my attention to this photo. Is the lady standing smack in the middle of the Railroad crossing. Waiting to METX 422 to pass right on by. Which we all know that this is not a cool thing to do.

I only say this because it looks like this former Milwaukee Route does not have any pedestrian crossing gates. As they do on the BNSF & Old C&NW Routes do. Having lived in the Chicago are in my youth.

Also, wasn't the platforms for the River Forest stop on the East side of Thatcher Road at one time? If that is true, than please post. It was over 6 years ago, when I rode the Metra North Central train to Antioch/ And the train stopped in River Forest. Also noticed the Pace 331 Bus stopped at the railroad crossing. The view was just barely brief for me.

Hi James!
I agree with You on the fact that what that woman is doing in the photo, really isn't very intelegent. My friend Anthony C, noticed that on some of My early railfan photographs I had taken Myself, I was actually standing on a Mainline Track! Luckilly I didn't do that for very long.

By the way, this photo was taken in the town of "River Grove", not "River Forest". River Forest is south of here near West Lake Street, between the towns of Oak Park and Maywood, and is located on the Union Pacific -Metra West Line to Elburn Illinois. Ex C&NW.

Thank You.
Eddie.
