I took this mid day photo in early August of 2007. The photo was taken on South Kostner Avenue and West 50th Street near Chicago Midway Airport. This is the annual summer carnival that is held every year at Saint Richard's Catholic Parish. For many years, I would visit this carnival every chance I had back in the 1980's. This is a rare view of the carnival being set up on West 50th Street. I believe that this would be the opening night for this festival.

Hi, I lived on Kenneth avenue just across the street from the parish school for 42 years. We just sold the house in 6/2006. Hated leaving the neighborhood, but now both parents are gone so the family home was sold. Attended the parish school too. My earliest memories of the priests there go as far back as Father Kilroy.
so glad to see st richard's still has their carnival! a staple of my 70's childhood. i remember the indoor beer garden/casino and the smell of beer in plastic cups, and the little baby elephant they had outside named "Babe". i gave the elephant part of my snow-cone and my dad told me she'd "always remember me".
