The Axle Roller Rink in Norridge Illinois. Originally "The Hub". Closed in 1985.
Aside from my interests in trains and transportation subjects, I
am also an avid roller skating enthusiast. Here is a picture of
a place my family and I used to go roller skating at during the
1970's, in near northwest suburban Norridge Illinois.
Originally known as The Hub Roller Rink, the Axle Roller Rink
as it was known in later years, was located on North Harlem
Avenue, near West Montrose Avenue, in Norridge Illinois.
The building still stands today, perhaps on borrowed time. It
has since been utilized for other retail store uses.

Seaboard Coast Line Railroad Alco S 2 diesel switcher # 26 at an unknown photo location circa 1960's era. Florida perhaps?
The railroad we know today as the CSX Transportation Company,
was created during the mid 1980's, in the wake of several mergers
that took place over several years.
One of the predecessor railroads, was the Seaboard Coast Line
Railroad, which was a southeastern United States regional -
railroad company, that operated mainly in Florida and Georgia.
It was originally known as the Seaboard Air Line Railroad.
This photograph was taken sometime after the 1967 merger of
the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, and the Atlantic Coast Line
Railroad. The locomotive shown here in this rare color late
1960's era photograph, shows SCL locomotive # 26, still -
wearing the now faded 1950's era black and red S.A.L color
scheme used on switcher locomotives, but now features the
new Seaboard Coast Line markings on the side of the hood.

Western Pacific Railroad steam wrecking crane MWW 37. Oroville California. 1966. Richard Smith photograph.
I found this color 1960's era photograph from the former
Western Pacific Railroad at my Link page
Fallen Flags.Org, which is located to the right of your
computer screen at www.rr-fallenflags.org
Although steam locomotives were long gone and very obsolete
on North American railroads by the post war 1950's, purpose
built heavy equipment like the steam powered heavy crane
used for clearing up train accident derailments, held on in to
the 1960's and some cases, the 1970's on many railroads.
Today, most railroads do derailment clean up work with
contract firms such as Hulcher Rail Services, using modern
heavy equipment and mobile cranes.
A number of steam cranes and derricks, can be seen today
at various railroad museums around the nation.
Thanks.

Wintertime at the BNSF Railway's Clyde Yard facility. Berwyn Illinois. January 2007.
I took this photograph on a frigid but very sunny winter morning,
back in January of 2007. We are facing southwest from the
adjacent West 26th Street, along the north side of Clyde Yard.
Approximately two years later, the BNSF Railway erected a
large fence along this portion of West 26th Street, blocking
this view of Clyde Yard that I had taken for granted.
