Road construction on Greenwood Road. Glenview Illinois USA. June 2011.

Hi everyone!

Welcome aboard Eddie's Railfan Page, from the city of Chicago Illinois USA.

I took this photo this past Tuesday, in north suburban Glenview Illinois USA.

Road construction is "Everywhere" during the Summer season in the greater Chicagoland area.

Greenwood road in north suburban Glenview Illinois near the intersection at Glenview Road, has been the recent site of heavy paving activity.

Aside from the numerous traffic headaches, it looks like this road construction crewis making great progress on the southbound lanes of Greenwood Road.

Hopefully it will be done soon.

Thanks.

This little building, appears to be some sort of a storage and staging area for the many pieces of G scale equipment. I believe that small repairs are also performed here as well.

The Isabella Street CTA Purple line railroad crossing. Wilmette Illinois. July 2010.

One very scenic railfan photo location I occasionally enjoy hanging out at, is the Chicago Transit Authority's Purple line railroad crossing on Isabella Street in north suburban Wilmette Illinois.

Summertime is especially beautiful with the many lush green trees and local wildlife that can show up at most any given time.

Prior to 1955, the Chicago, North Shore And Milwaukee Railroad's electric interurban trains passed this crossing, on what was their Shore Line route. This line from Linden Avenue terminal in Wilmette to downtown Chicago, was known as the CTA Evanston Line prior to 1993, when the CTA began color coding their rapid transit routes.

The Oak Park Society of Model Engineers H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.Oak Park Illinois USA. June 2011.

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago, at The Oak Park Society of Model Engineers H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.

Aside from the fact that the former pre 1970 Chicago, Burlington & Quincy was one of My favorite childhood railroads that served the city of Chicago Illinois, this image captures the look and feel of Midwest branchline Granger railroading that the C,B & Q was quiete famous for back in the day.

This beautiful 1950's era C,B & Q Baldwin diesel switcher and the silver early 1960's era caboose, were nicely staged for photos on the clubs diorama display just above the main club layout.

‘Empire Carpet Man’ Elmer Lynn Hauldren dead at age 89 - Chicago Sun-Times

Many of My readers here at Eddie's Railfan Page, are actually former Chicagoans now living in other citties and sates here in North America.

Although most of My own photos and news updates I post are very positive, sometimes I
also assume the responsibility to keep My friends who view Eddie's Railfan Page, posted with local Chicago area news stories that unfortunately are occasionally sad.

For the former Chicagoans who weren't aware of it...
Elmer Lynn Hauldren, the man who was famous on local Chicago television as
the TV commercial "Pitchman" for Empire Carpeting...unfortunately passed away on
April 27th, 2011 from natural causes at the age of 89.

The Empire Carpet Man as He was known as....will be missed by many who enjoyed
those occasionally comical Empire Carpet commercials from the 1970's until
recently.

Empire Carpetings 5-8-8 2-3-Hundred jingle, is still very memorable today.

Sorry.

The Oak Park Society of Model Engineers H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.Oak Park Illinois USA. May 2011.

I took this photo during a May 2011 visit to The Oak Park Society of Model Engineers H.O Scale Model Railroad Club.

I grew up on the near southwest side of the city of Chicago Illinois USA during the 1960's, 70's and 80's.

Sometimes, a unique model from a local Chicago railroad will show up at any given operating session.

The defunct Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, was a railroad that called the south side of Chicago home prior to 1980.

Although I would occasionally see locomotives and cars from the Rock Island growing up in Chicago during the 1960's and 70's era, I could never recall seeing these olive green Rock Island box cars at all back then. The lettering style graphics, indicate that this prototype is from the 1960's and early 1970's era.

If anybody has any information about these olive green Rock Island boxcars...I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.
