Chicago's old Manual steam era Brighton Junction. (Gone -Replaced) Photographed in early April of 2007.

For many years, one of my all time favorite railroad junctions
I had enjoyed visiting, was the old steam era Brighton Junction
near South Archer and Western Avenues, at the border of -
Chicago's Brighton Park and Mc Kinley Park neighborhoods
on the southside of Chicago.

Long obsolete, this old manually dispatched railroad junction
from the steam era, complete with mechanical semaphore -
signals and a wooden operator's shack, was closed in early
July of 2007, and upgraded with new signals, and remote -
dispatching. It was a place where new double stack trains,
met steam era railroading of the past.

I still can't believe, that I took this photograph 8 years ago.
