A friend of Mine named Jeff who I attended nearby Curie High School with, took this snapshot with an inexpensive pocket camera circa June of 1982. This was the locomotive servicing and ready tracks located just west of the Elsdon Roundhouse at West 49th Street and South Kedzie Avenue. The center locomotive was acquired from the defunct Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, wich had went out of business after a lenghty bankruptcy in March of 1980. The locomotive appears to be an EMD model GP-38-2 roadswitcher adorned in the mid 1970's Rock Island blue and white color scheme.
