Switching actiivity on the south hump at the former Santa Fe Corwith Yard. Chicago Illinois USA. April 1984.

I took this photo on top of the Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad embankment, just south of the intersection of South Archer Avenue and West 47th Street. We are looking north toward Corwith Yard, on a lovely Spring afternoon way back in April of 1984. A rebuilt A,T & S,F rebuilt 1950's era EMD model GP-9 roadswitcher and slug unit, are seen slowly backing up a cut of cars to the south hump. The cars will slowly be uncoupled one at a time, and gravity will take them downhill onto the siding / classification tracks inside Corwith Yard. Life before BNSF.
