Speeding eastbound BNSF Railway unit coal train. Brookfield Illinois USA. August 2007.

With a green block signal indication and a fully loaded train of coal in tow, an eastbound BNSF Railway train speeds through west suburban Brookfield Illinois enroute to Chicago on a hot August afternoon in 2007.

I like the colors. How long has BNSF used this scheme?

Hi Brokecompsoul!
This color scheme is actually from the BNSF Railway predecessor railroad Burlington Northern. It came about around 1990 or 1991. It was known as "grinstien Green".
Three old cab unit EMD diesel locomotives -one E-9 and two F 9's
( A and B unit.) were painted in this color scheme and used on the Burlington Northern RR Executive Office Train.
After the BNSF merger, the three were donated to the Illinois Railway Museum located in Union Illinois.

Thank You.
