I took this photo at the Hesston Steam Museum, located in northwest Indiana near the border town of New Buffalo Michigan. The green locomotive seen here, is a 7 and 1/2 " Gauge working live steam model of a North American prototype 4-6-2 wheel arrangement Pacific class steam locomotive. The prototypes of these locomotives were fast and powerfull, and were utilized for hauling passenger trains during the steam era. As the steam era was drawing to a close upon the transition to diesel locomotives during the 1940's and 50's, many railroads reasigned these locomotives to commuter trains, and in some cases, to working local freight trains , coach yard switching, and maintenance trains.
