The Grand Trunk Western Elsdon Yard on Chicago's southwest side had officially closed in October of 1983. From the yard's closing, untill September of 1986, locomotives were staged by the yard office just north of West 51st Street.
A small cut of Grand Trunk Western diesel locomotives, and locomotives from the Detroit, Toledo & Ironton Railroad acquired through a 1981 corporate merger, bask in the summer sun while a northbound trailer train enters the former yard on the mainline track.
